Black Family Day will be observed Saturday, June 27, 2009, in downtown Reidsville, NC. OPEN to the public and sponsored by the Rebuilding the Block Initiative, harambeeradio.com, 97.1QMG, local businesses and citizens. Black Family Day is held, annually, on the 4th Saturday in June. It is known for its spirited entertainment and enlightening speakers.

The theme for this year’s momentous event is "ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY TO BUILD OUR COMMUNITY”.

Workshops for self-improvement will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will include a special screening of FOR OUR SONS, written, produced, and directed by Vanz Chapman and Eric McKay.  The film is a “cinematic broadcast” of life lessons and love for the many fatherless black boys in the U.S. who are in danger of becoming a statistic. This will be held at the Reidsville Public Library located at 204 W. Morehead Street.

The outdoor program will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Scales and Morehead Streets.

About Black Family Day
Black Family Day has been bringing all people together, since 1996, in unity, peace, and love to inspire and strengthen family ties and recognize the tremendous contributions of Black Families to this nation. The rural city government of Reidsville misunderstood organizers motives and did not accept the program at its inception. Founder, Amon Muhammad, and supporters rallied against the opposition and eventually filed suit in federal court for civil rights violations. The city ultimately yielded in 2000.

Included are day of workshops, gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop, spoken word artists, spiritual & civic leaders. Vendors from all over the region bring arts, crafts, and products of interest to the Black community. Ethnic and traditional menus are on hand in the food village. The Family Fun Village will feature games, bounces, face painting, and more.
